IP Whitelist Support: Which Proxy Products Use Whitelist?
IP Whitelist (IP White List) is a security mechanism that allows access to your proxy services only from specific IP addresses. With this feature, only servers or devices you specify can connect to your proxy, preventing unauthorized access.
As LivaProxy, IP Whitelist support is available in most of the proxy products we offer. However, this feature may vary depending on the product structure. In this article, we explain in detail which proxy types support whitelist and how you can use it.
What is IP Whitelist and Why is it Used?
IP Whitelist is an access control method that allows only the IP addresses you specify to connect to your proxy server. It provides IP-based authentication instead of (or in addition to) username and password.
Advantages of Using IP Whitelist
- Additional Security Layer: Access is only granted from IP addresses you trust, preventing unauthorized access by third parties.
- Automatic Authentication: When connecting from your VPS or servers, there's no need to enter username/password each time.
- API and Automation Compatibility: It's an ideal solution for automation software and scripts.
- Multi-Device Management: You can provide secure access to the same proxy from different servers.
Which LivaProxy Products Support IP Whitelist?
In our LivaProxy product portfolio, IP Whitelist support varies depending on the product type:
Products Supporting IP Whitelist
- Mobile Proxy: Full whitelist support is available. You can add IP addresses you want to the whitelist for access to your mobile proxies.
- IPv4 Proxy (ISP & Datacenter): The whitelist feature is active in all our IPv4 proxy products. It can be used in both Residential and Datacenter types.
- IPv6 Proxy (Static): Whitelist support is provided in our static IPv6 proxy services.
- Premium IPv6 Proxy Server: Full whitelist control is provided due to the dedicated subnet structure.
Products Not Supporting IP Whitelist
- Rotating IPv6 Proxy: IP Whitelist support is not available in this product group. Rotating IPv6 Proxy services use username:password-based authentication due to the shared pool structure and the mechanism of rotating different IPs with each request.
- Rotating Proxy (IPv4 & IPv6 Mixed Pool): The whitelist feature is not supported in our GB-based Rotating Proxy packages.
How to Add IP Whitelist?
Adding an IP address to your proxy products that support whitelist is quite simple:
Step-by-Step Whitelist Addition
- Log in to Your Customer Panel: Log in to your account at livaproxy.com.
- Go to My Services Section: Select the proxy service you want to add whitelist to.
- Open IP Management Tab: Find the "IP Whitelist" or "Authorized IPs" section on the service detail page.
- Add IP Address: Enter the IP address you want to add (e.g., 185.123.45.67).
- Save: Changes become active within a few seconds.
Finding Your VPS or Server's IP Address
If you're connecting from your VPS or server, you need to find out that server's public IP address:
- On your server, visit https://api.ipify.org in a browser to see your IP.
- From command line: You can find your IP address with
curl ifconfig.me or curl icanhazip.com commands.
Multiple IP Address Whitelist Management
If you want to access the same proxy from multiple servers or devices, you can add each device's IP address to the whitelist:
- Your office IP
- Your home internet connection
- Your VPS server IPs
- Cloud server IP blocks
Typically, you can add 5-10 IP addresses per service. If you need to add more IP addresses, you can contact our support team.
Recommendations for Dynamic IP Users
If your internet connection uses dynamic IP (IP changes with each connection), the username:password method will be more suitable than IP Whitelist. However, in some cases:
- Get Static IP: You can get static IP service from your internet service provider.
- Use VPS: You can connect from a VPS server with a static IP.
- Static IP via VPN: You can use VPN services that provide static IP.
Security and Best Practices
To maximize security when using IP Whitelist, pay attention to these recommendations:
- Add Only Necessary IPs: Remove IP addresses you don't use or no longer need from the list.
- Regular Review: Periodically review the IP addresses in your whitelist.
- Two-Factor Authentication: In addition to whitelist, you can also use username:password combination.
- Trusted Networks: Add IP addresses only from networks you trust and control.
Why Doesn't Rotating IPv6 Proxy Have Whitelist?
Due to the structural characteristics of our Rotating IPv6 Proxy product, the IP Whitelist feature is not supported:
- Shared Pool Structure: Rotating systems instantly assign addresses from a large IP pool.
- Different IP with Each Request: Since a different exit IP is used with each connection, the whitelist mechanism is not compatible.
- High Volume Usage: Whitelist management is not practical for uses requiring millions of IP rotations.
Therefore, username:password based authentication is used in Rotating IPv6 Proxy services. This method is both secure and fully compatible with automation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can whitelist and username:password be used together?
Yes, you can use both methods together for higher security. In this case, both your IP address must be in the whitelist and you must enter the correct username:password.
What happens if the IP I added to the whitelist changes?
If your IP address changes, you won't be able to access your proxy. You need to add your new IP address to the whitelist from the customer panel. If you use dynamic IP, it's recommended to prefer the username:password method.
Can I add IPv6 addresses to the whitelist?
Yes, if your server has an IPv6 address, you can add it to the whitelist as well. Both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses are supported.
How long does it take for whitelist changes to become active?
IP addresses you add or remove from the whitelist typically become active within 5-30 seconds.
In Summary
IP Whitelist is an important feature that increases your proxy security and facilitates your automation. As LivaProxy, we offer this feature in our Mobile Proxy, IPv4 Proxy, and static IPv6 Proxy products. In Rotating IPv6 Proxy services, the username:password method is used due to the product structure.
You can use the whitelist feature to provide secure access to your proxies from your VPS or server, thus both increasing your security and automating your authentication process.
