Hostname and IP Address Usage in ISP Proxy: Connection Server and Exit IP Differences

One of the most common questions when using ISP Proxy services is understanding the difference between the hostname address, server IP, and exit IP shown in connection details. In this article, we'll clarify these concepts by explaining the proxy connection architecture in detail.

What is a Hostname and Why is it Used?

In your delivery file, you may see hostname addresses like isp.livaproxy.com or isp2.livaproxy.com. These are domain-based addresses used to connect to the proxy server.

Main advantages of using hostnames:

  • Flexibility: Even if the server IP address changes, the hostname remains the same and your connection isn't interrupted
  • Load Balancing: Multiple servers can operate behind a single hostname
  • Manageability: Provides ease of centralized management through DNS
  • Memorability: Easier to remember and use compared to IP addresses

Three Different IP Address Concepts

Three different types of IP addresses come into play when using ISP Proxy, and it's important to distinguish between them:

1. Server IP Address (Connection IP)

This is the IP address that the hostname points to. For example, the hostname isp2.livaproxy.com might redirect to IP address 45.94.171.35. This address:

  • Is used to establish connection to the proxy server
  • Is not the address you exit to the internet with
  • May change during infrastructure updates
  • Typically belongs to a data center network

2. Exit IP Address (Proxy IP)

This is the IP address you actually exit to the internet with, such as 131.222.212.114. This address:

  • Is the IP seen by target websites
  • A different IP address is assigned for each port
  • Is registered to a real ISP (Internet Service Provider) infrastructure
  • Carries residential/ISP characteristics

3. Your Own IP Address

This is your personal internet connection's IP address before connecting to the proxy server. This address is only used during the connection establishment phase to the proxy server.

Connection Flow: How Does it Work?

ISP Proxy connection works as follows:

Step 1: Your device → connects to isp.livaproxy.com (45.94.171.35) server
Step 2: Server assigns you an exit IP based on your port (e.g., 131.222.212.114)
Step 3: All your internet traffic goes through this exit IP
Step 4: Target websites only see your exit IP (131.222.212.114)

Should I Use Hostname or IP Address?

You can use both methods when establishing your proxy connection, but hostname usage is recommended:

Provider Information in IP Details

When checking your exit IP address with whois or IP lookup tools, you may sometimes see Hostifox, Vodafone, or different provider names. This is completely normal:

  • ISP Proxy infrastructure: Uses the network infrastructure of real ISP providers (Turkcell, Vodafone, etc.)
  • Subnet ownership: IP blocks may be allocated to different organizations
  • Official registration: All IP addresses are legally registered and from legitimate ISP infrastructure
  • Residential characteristic: Recognized as real user IPs by platforms and websites

How Do I Check My Exit IP?

To check the IP address you're exiting to the internet with through the proxy:

  • Visit sites like whatismyip.com or ipinfo.io
  • In terminal/command line: run curl ifconfig.me command
  • Inspect request headers in browser developer tools Network tab

The IP address you see should be within the exit IP range specified in your delivery file.

Port-Based IP Distribution

In ISP Proxy services, each port has a different exit IP address. For example:

  • Port 10001: Exits with IP 131.222.212.114
  • Port 10002: Exits with IP 131.222.212.115
  • Port 10003: Exits with IP 131.222.212.116

This structure allows you to access hundreds of different exit IPs through the same hostname and server IP.

What Happens During Server IP Changes?

LivaProxy may update server IP addresses during infrastructure improvements or maintenance work. If you're using hostname:

  • You don't need to do anything
  • DNS automatically redirects to the new IP
  • Your connection continues without interruption

  • Always use hostname: Prefer addresses like isp.livaproxy.com for long-term stability
  • Record port-IP mapping: Note which port corresponds to which exit IP

Common Issues and Solutions

"Hostname Cannot Be Resolved" Error

If your DNS server cannot resolve the hostname:

  • Check your DNS settings (try 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1)
  • Ensure your internet connection is working
  • Firewall may be blocking DNS queries

"Connected But No Internet"

If you can connect to the server IP but internet doesn't work:

  • Check your username and password credentials
  • Ensure the port number is correct
  • Verify the proxy protocol (HTTP/SOCKS5) is correctly selected
